A505 Safety Updates

16 Aug 2026

Following the fatalities at Slip End last winter Herts County Council highways safety engineers have been looking at ways in which the road could be made safer between the Baldock bypass and the Cambridgeshire boundary beyond Royston. They are looking at changes that can be made simply and quickly rather than major changes that would take years to complete.

They have come up with plans to reduce speed limits, install more speed cameras, cut back vegetation and improve signage and road markings. It is likely that there would be a 50mph limit between Slip End and Odsey with a 60 mph limit from there to Royston.

Assuming these changes are all agreed it should be possible for them to be completed next year.
