Lib Dems select Ed Nutting as candidate for Royston Town Council by-election

11 Jul 2025

Royston Liberal Democrats are delighted to announce that Ed Nutting is the Liberal Democrat candidate in the upcoming by-election in Palace Ward. The by-election was triggered for the vacancy created by the resignation of long-standing Town Councillor and former Royston Town Mayor John Rees, in June.

Ed is an entrepreneur, applying his research in computer hardware to protect people’s data and prevent future attacks on our supermarkets, national grid and more. He moved to Royston three years ago after studying in Bristol and enjoys sailing, kayaking and hiking in his spare time. Ed joined the party in 2023 and quickly became an active campaigner helping us to win the District Council elections that year. He joined the Royston executive branch, becoming webmaster and recently, joined the North Herts & Stevenage local executive team. Ed is enthusiastic about taking this opportunity to meet more people in Royston and to represent their views at the town council.

Lib DEm candidate Ed Nutting

Ed Nutting says “I’m committed to carrying on the hard work of the local Lib Dems as effective community advocates – listening to and sticking up for everyone in Palace Ward. If elected, I will be joining a hard-working, dedicated, long-standing team of Lib Dem Councillors who work hard all year round for local residents.

Talking to local people on the doorstep, they tell me that they have been let down by the Town Council who have failed to re-open the Picture Palace, only the Liberal Democrats have a credible plan to re-open the cinema

Ed is an outstanding candidate who’s energy and enthusiasm will help successfully tackle local issues most important to residents.

The by-election will take place in Palace Ward on Thursday 24th July.
