Thank you, Royston

8 May 2026

We are sincerely grateful to everyone who placed their trust in the Liberal Democrat team at the local elections. It is a privilege to represent our community, and we are humbled by the support you have shown us. As we now have a significant majority on the Town Council—securing 12 out of the 13 seats—we will be able to move our plans forward more confidently and effectively for the benefit of the whole town.

Across Royston, we were proud to receive a significant majority of the total votes cast. In Royston Heath, we are delighted that Elizabeth Freeman, Bryony May, Ed McGowan, and Ed Nutting were all elected with a substantial majority of the ward's vote. In Meridian, all five of our candidates—Bulbul Ahmed, Steve Claydon, Tim Johnson, Lisa Thompson, and Piotr Zolopa—were successful. We also saw a strong performance in Palace Ward, where Paul Brown, David May, and Gerald Jackson were elected. This means the Liberal Democrats now hold 12 of the 13 seats on the Town Council.

To our volunteers and supporters: thank you for your time and dedication. This campaign was a team effort, and your help on the ground made all the difference. We have enjoyed the many conversations we’ve had with residents across our wards over the last few weeks, and we appreciate every bit of feedback and encouragement shared with us.

We are now focused on the job at hand. We intend to work hard every day to repay your confidence and to represent every resident in Royston to the best of our ability. There is much to be done, and we are ready to get to work.
