The Royston Venue: Stage Refurbishment Contractor Selected
We are delighted that at Monday’s meeting of the town council, one of the quotes for refurbishing the town hall’s theatre received unanimous approval. Lib Dem Councillor Ed Nutting led the way, using his theatre tech experience to inform members of the scope and purpose of the works, before proposing how the council should approach its decision.
Balancing cost with the town’s ambitions for the hall, the council chose the quote that offered the best package of essential infrastructure upgrades, and equipment targeted at events which the community is already organising for 2026 and 2027. Details of the decision will be announced by the Town Council Officers in due course.
This is a critical milestone in the implementation of The Royston Venue, and we look forward to seeing the works completed later this year. Progress has been made on other areas too. For example, forming The Venue Sub-Committee with the powers to spend the allocated budget, chaired by Lib Dem Councillors Ed Nutting and Elizabeth Freeman (vice chair). Also, vital maintenance is being performed on the cinema equipment, the council officers are working with Royston First on legacy aspects of the former cinema, and the advertisement for the Venue Manager has been published and is already receiving responses!
The Royston Liberal Democrats continue to push for improvements to the Town, and we look forward to continuing our hard work for you all year round.
