Liberal Democrat candidate, Ed Nutting won a resounding victory, securing over 47% of the vote in the Royston Town Council By-election on 24th July 2025.

"I'm absolutely thrilled to be elected by the residents of Palace Ward as their new town councillor," Ed Nutting said. "I look forward to representing all Palace residents to make our town an even better place to live and thank them for putting their trust in me."

Ed's Lib Dem colleague and existing Lib Dem town councillor, Tim Johnson, added, "This is a really heartening victory for Ed. From the many comments I received on the doorstep while canvassing, it's clear our Palace constituents have every faith in us to support their best interests."

The leader of the Liberal Democrats in Royston, Ruth Brown, was delighted with the result.

"Ed is a superb, dynamic member of our group and I look forward to working alongside him on the Town Council to really see some impetus gained in many of our positive initiatives, particularly helping to drive forward the re-opening of the Picture Palace."
