Say NO to LGR

Stevenage has been governed by local people since 1873, when its first council was elected.

But now the Labour Government plans to abolish Stevenage Borough Council, along with Hertfordshire County Council, and replace them by unitary councils. It calls this Local Government Reorganisation (LGR).

A unitary council will mean you will have far fewer councillors to represent you in Stevenage. It may also mean your “local” councillors could live some distance away and have little real knowledge of the situation where you live.

Liberal Democrats think this move is profoundly anti-democratic because we believe that a local council should be as local to its residents as possible.

SAY NO TO LGR

We call on the Government to cancel its proposal to replace Stevenage Borough Council and Hertfordshire County Council with unitary councils.
